Vital Society

Valley Integration to Active Living Society, (Vital Society), was developed between 1989 and 1991 to provide support to dual-diagnosis individuals with challenging behaviors who had historically experience a great deal of difficulty living in the community. With the planned closure of Glendale Lodge and similar institutions, there was a recognized need for an alternate care model to provide a stable community placement for them.

The first home opened by Vital Society was Wharncliffe Road in 1991. This home was replaced by Abbott House on the same property as Westholme Road. Stamps Road opened in 1992 and Westholme opened in 1994. Due to the success of these homes they were expanded to five bed homes in 2005. Due to the success of these homes, Vital Society was asked to open a fourth home on Miller Road in 2007. This home was replaced by Miller on Marchmont in December 2010.

In December 2010, Vital Society opened 2 Semi-Independent Living programs at our Marchmont location.
